On some forums and social networks frequented by radio amateurs from other countries, I’m often asked about the nature of my call sign: CB (citizen band), SWL (listener), or amateur radio operator? It’s true that for us, class 3 amateur radio operators in France, the call sign begins with « F and 0, » which can sometimes be confusing because the letter « O » can be mistaken for the number « 0. » I want to confirm that my French amateur radio call sign is composed as follows, « Foxtrot Zero Delta Mike Golf, » following the international phonetic alphabet. « Since 2012, the supervisory authority no longer conducts exams for obtaining the class 3 operator certificate. The call signs remain valid, of course, for operators of this class. »
I am aware that the distinction between different types of radio call signs can sometimes be unclear for foreign users. To dispel any confusion, I specify that I am an amateur radio operator with a call sign assigned by the competent authority in France.

Sur certains forums et réseaux sociaux fréquentés par des radioamateurs d’autres pays, je suis souvent interrogé sur la nature de mon indicatif : cibiste, SWL (écouteur) ou radioamateur? Il est vrai que pour nous, les opérateurs radioamateurs de classe 3 en France, l’indicatif commence par « F et 0 », ce qui peut parfois prêter à confusion, car la lettre « O » peut être confondue avec le chiffre « 0 ». Je tiens à confirmer que mon indicatif radioamateur français se compose comme suit, « Foxtrot Zéro Delta Mike Golf », conformément à l’alphabet international. « Depuis 2012, l’administration de tutelle ne procède plus à des examens pour l’obtention du certificat d’opérateur de classe 3. Les indicatifs restent bien sûr valides pour les OM de cette classe d’opérateur. »
Je suis conscient que la distinction entre les différents types d’indicatifs radio peut parfois être floue pour les utilisateurs étrangers. Pour dissiper toute confusion, je précise que je suis un opérateur radioamateur avec un indicatif attribué par l’autorité compétente en France..
